Product Description
As their name suggests, distance sensors are used for determining the distance of an object from another object or obstacle without any physical contact involved (unlike a measuring tape, for example). Commonly associated with ultrasonic sensors, it functions by outputting a signal (depending on technology: ultrasonic waves, IR, LED, etc.) and measuring a change when the signal returns.

The sensor measures distances without contacting the measured surface, thus eliminating wear and associated errors. It features a case hardened chassis that is seal from the environment in order to keep dust, water spray, and the weather out of the optical systems. The measured object can be a solid, energy absorbing or radiating hot body. Especially measurements on natural surfaces with low reflectivity are also possible. The laser distance sensors even can measure distances to or from moving objects.

HC-G50 laser distance sensor uses laser diode emitting the Infrared light, to measure distances by measuring the phase shift of the returning light. The ability to measure with accuracy of millimeter within 50m is realized by the proven phase comparison method.
The HC-G50 laser distance sensor can measure targets from 0.3m up to 50m without the use of reflective targets. It can work with any opaque target. The HC-G50’s accuracy is typically ± 1mm, but this will depend on the reflectivity of the target surface, ambient light, and temperature conditions. For very distant measurements, you can use retroreflective target material (such as 3M Scotchlite 3279) to increase the maximum measurement range to 150meters.
Working Principle
